Dr. Rebecca Auer is the Executive Vice-President of Research and Innovation at The Ottawa Hospital and the CEO and Scientific Director of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.  She has pioneered studies on the effect of surgery on the immune system and translating laboratory discoveries into clinical trials. In May of 2022, Dr. Auer was personally affected by cholangiocarcinoma when her family member was diagnosed. Since receiving this news, she has been a vocal proponent and advocate for cholangiocarcinoma patients in Canada and in February 2023 she founded the C3 in partnership with patients, caregivers, oncologists and researchers.

The Canadian Cholangiocarcinoma Collaborative (C3) is supported by a Canadian Cancer Society Breakthrough Team Grant in partnership with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. The granting funds for C3 are managed by The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, which serves as the lead institute for all collaborative operations.
